Slam Dunk Festival 2015 - South (You Me At Six)
Having seen You Me At Six before, I already had a sense of what was in store for their performance, and headlining the whole day I knew that they would be going all out.
Seeing as me and my friends spent the majority of the day at the main stage waiting for YMAS (although we were there mostly to watch all the amazing bands), we managed to stand right at the front for their set, as well as being able to do so for Neck Deep, Lower Than Atlantis and Taking Back Sunday, however this came at a cost when we realised how brutal these fans were.
I literally had a girl jump on my back and start elbowing me in the back of the head, which I'm not sure was down to the fact that she was so hyped up to see the band or whether she was doing it just to annoy me so that I'd move out of her way and she could get to the barrier. It soon died down after the first couple of songs, and everyone seemed to chill out and enjoy themselves without being utter dicks, although the set was stopped halfway through when someone in the crowd passed out and Josh and the group decided they wouldn't carry on playing until she was seen to, for her safety.
I liked the fact that they looked out for the crowd and cared for the girl, even though they still had the choice to carry on and just ignore it. While when they first made the decision a lot of people seemed annoyed that they had stopped the set (especially as we were told that curfew was 11pm so the festival had to finish by then, so many thought that the setlist would be cut short) everyone soon started to be patient and understood the situation, which I think is a sign of a great fanbase.
It was an extremely special set list for the band this year at Slam Dunk, also, as they decided, in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 'Take Off Your Colours', they played a lot of their old songs from the album, opening their set with 'The Truth is a Terrible Thing', following with some bangers, like 'Save It For The Bedroom', 'Kiss and Tell' and 'Always Attract'.
They mixed in, obviously, songs from their newest album 'Cavalier Youth', with songs such as 'Fresh Start Fever' and 'Room To Breathe', followed by 'Underdog' and 'Stay With Me' from 'Hold Me Down' and 'Loverboy', 'Reckless' and 'No One Does It Better' from 'Sinners Never Sleep'.
Personally, I don't think that their setlist could've been topped, including all their most famous songs, and those that are most popular with their fans. They included every song that I wanted to hear them sing, giving a performance of their career over time, spreading themselves evenly between each album they have created.
Absolute 10/10 performance from You Me At Six at Slam Dunk South 2015; what a headline act.
